Dr. Bereket Geberselassie Assa is a Ph.D. researcher and lecturer at Wolaita Sodo University specializing in Geoinformation and Earth Observation for Hydrology. His work focuses on modeling nitrogen balance and determining nitrate levels in surface and groundwater resulting from agricultural fertilizer losses, using satellite data, GIS, and advanced techniques like Geographically Weighted Regression. He has published research quantifying nitrogen fertilizer losses and predicting spatial patterns of nitrate levels in Ethiopia’s Bilate watershed by integrating remote sensing (e.g., MODIS NDVI/EVI) with field observations to inform sustainable water and soil management. His contributions include the advanced integration of crop modeling and hydrology with machine learning and geostatistical models to address data uncertainty in hydrological studies, offering novel approaches for improved environmental monitoring and sustainable agricultural planning in semi-arid regions.
